We're on the menu at Corangamite Foodies Feast

Friday 7th February, 2014

If duck san choi boi or slow roasted shoulder of lamb with kohl rabi remoulade sound mouth-watering, then be sure to get your tickets to the third annual Corangamite Foodies Feast.

Tickets to Corangamite Shire’s premier food event are selling fast.  The event will be held at the Five Star Function Centre in Camperdown on Friday 14 March 2014 as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

Timboon Railway Shed Distillery has put the finishing touches to a gourmet menu that includes local meats, cheeses, vegetables, spices, honey, berries, ice-cream and chocolate.

Corangamite Shire Economic Development Officer Sara Napier said all food on the menu would be supplied by local producers from the 12 Apostles Food Artisans Group.

“I’m really excited about this menu.  We have banquet style canapés that feature local free range beef, duck and smoked eel,” Mrs Napier said.

“While I don’t want to give too much away, we have an entrée that combines the rich dairy of Schulz Organic, L’Artisan and Apostle Whey Cheese.

“The slow roasted main will be accompanied by a range of warm and cold salads that incorporate local vegetables from Farmshop 1580 in Ecklin, Bone’s Otway Potatoes Timboon Honey and Scotts Creek Saffron,” she continued.

Koallah Farm near Purrumbete is supplying free range beef, lamb and pork for the menu.  General Manager Glen Bernoth said Koallah’s approach to sustainable farming meant a lot more than supplying top quality meat to consumers.

“In addition to supplying people with top quality meat, we encourage our customers to think about consuming all the cuts.  You can make lesser cuts the hero if they’re cooked well and slow enough,” Mr Bernoth said.

“An event like the Foodies Feast really works because the menu showcases what can be done with secondary cuts of meat, for example the slow roasted shoulder of lamb.”

Cooriemungle dairy farmer and award winning cheese-maker from Apostle Whey Cheese, Julian Benson said events like the Foodies Feast helped local farmers get their products recognised.

“Visits are certainly up on last year and we’ve noticed more people have the food trail map, so that has helped,” Mr Benson said.
